ABOUT IN THE MOMENT PARENTING

Helping parents make sense of difficult moments

Parenting is often decided in ordinary, difficult moments when we don't have all the answers.

We want to protect our children. We want to help when something is difficult. But children also need opportunities to experience things for themselves, make choices, reflect and learn.

In the Moment Parenting exists to help parents stay connected and present through those moments — supporting children without automatically taking over or removing every difficulty.

HOW WE APPROACH PARENTING

Start with the moment

Rather than telling parents what they should do, we help them pause and understand what may be happening, consider different possibilities and work out what might be useful next.

As a child's capability develops, a parent's role can change — from helping, to working things out together, to asking, “What do you think?” and “What could you do?”

The aim is to stay alongside children as they experience, understand, choose, reflect and learn, providing support without unnecessarily taking away their opportunity to develop capability for themselves.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Why I created In the Moment Parenting

My background includes secondary-school teaching, coaching and mentoring, alongside further study in psychology and mental health awareness.

In the course of this work, I've developed an interest in how children learn to navigate challenges, make decisions and work things out for themselves — and how adults can support that development.

In the Moment Parenting grew from reflecting on the experiences children face as they move through school, and how parents can stay connected and supportive without automatically taking over or removing every difficulty.

I created it to help parents make sense of difficult moments and consider what might be useful next, while supporting their children's growing capability.
